Guild System

Objective

The House DuChasse is implementing a Guild System in order to recognize the many contributions of the members of the House. The purpose of the Guild System is to provide a structure for teaching and to foster development of crafting skills. Any craft that had a product will be considered for inclusion into the Guild.

Guild Structure

Over Guilds
The purpose of the four Over Guilds is to work together with the individual Guilds during the initial phases of the Guilds

  • Distaff - home centered - cooking - spinning - sewing – weaving tapestry

  • Husbandry - gardening - farming - animal husbandry

  • Craft - smithing - pottery - basket weaving - fletching - bow making - barber surgeon/ herbalist

  • Thespian - story telling - puppeteering - acting - music - singing - barding

Guild Ranks

Apprentice
Anyone can be an apprentice of a craft, all they have to do is try an activity and create something

Journeyman
A Journeyman candidate must perform a quality period public demo using medieval methods and materials

Master
There must be a minimum of three Guild members, with at least two journeymen, to choose master

There can be any number of Masters within a guild Candidate must be a Journeyman to become a Master

A Journeyman must complete three public demos at three separate events to be considered for Master The journeyman must submit a Master piece for consideration

Grand Master
There must be three or more Masters within a Guild to elect a Grand Master from within their number

Persona Compatibility
It may be necessary to choose another non-noble persona to use at the time a demo is presented for consideration as a Journeyman. For example, Sir David would become David the Taylor (AKA the "Naked Taylor") in order to perform a demonstration of medieval sewing. Please see “Persona”

Guild Activities
The Guilds are assembled to help individuals become more skilled, gain and share knowledge and ultimately present demonstrations of their crafts. For those of you who remember, Master Jacob's smithing at Mid-Summer and History Alive, these demonstrations would qualify him as a Journeyman Smith and were a HUGE success at the events. Guild members are encouraged to communicate, share information and work on collaborative demonstrations. Any number of Journeyman and Apprentices can work together on the same presentation. Remember, our objective is quality.

Conclusion
Some Guilds have already formed....The Taylor's Guild, The Smith's Guild, The Bard's Guild, the Armourer's Guild, The Cobbler's Guild, The Barber Surgeon's Guild, The Thespians Guild, to name a few. So consider what your interests are and contact Michelle "The Mistress of Threads" to see how to get yourself recognized.
